The law enforcement is alarmed that a criminal group of influential people prepares to smuggle hazardous radioactive waste into the country and bury it in one of Russia’s old unused mines.
Police infiltrates the group by an undercover cop Samsonov. Once of the group’s leaders – a corrupted senior police officer Colonel Egorov sends Samsonov to the mine to prepare for the delivery of the deadly cargo. Samsonov finds a job at the boarding school nearby the mine and falls for a young teacher Zoya who reciprocates his feelings.
Meanwhile Egorov and his accomplices begin to suspect that Samsonov is a double agent. They decide to eliminate him and expedite implementation of their criminal plans.
The containers with the radioactive waste are delivered and buried inside the mine. To cover up the crime, the group planned to explode the mine.
But when only the minutes left before the explosion and after a fierce confrontation with Egorov, at the very last moment Samsonov, with the support of his loyal Zoya, manages to prevent the catastrophe.
