The central characters of the series is a group of talented Moscow detectives specializing in investigation of unconventional mystery crimes. A suspicious death of a renowned scientist brings crime scene investigators to a security- guarded town Dalnogorsk– home to the secret microbiology research laboratory. At the crime scene the experts discovered a fingerprint of a man officially dead for 15 years. However, the exhumation of his body established that the death occurred not more than a week ago. The people are petrified with a rumor creeping throughout the town that the bio lab created a virus capable of turning humans into zombies. A few young women die under mysterious circumstances in a small resort where Khromov was vacationing with his family. It seemed uncanny that a town celebrity female psychic was able to precisely predict occurrence of all those homicides. Meanwhile the local media rushed to announce her predictions in the newspapers and television. Trying to uncover the mystery of the crimes Khromov immerses into the world of cabbala, magic and astrology. When all the rational explanations of the events are exhausted Khromov succumbs to believing that demonic mystic evil is behind those cruel crimes.

Odd things began to happen with Colonel Khromov. Accidentally he runs across a criminal who he knew had committed a suicide a year before. His former classmate is found murdered under mysterious circumstances and Khromov is a primary suspect. It turns out a satanic sect has something to do with this crime. While running an investigation, Khromov visits a remote rural village where the strange events continue. Colonel witnesses a human sacrifice of a young girl who is later seen alive and unharmed. Khromov is close to losing his sanity and suspects that he himself is a killer.
